The Gundam franchise is split across multiple independent timelines. This guide covers the Universal Century (UC) — the original, longest, and most interconnected continuity. Non-UC timelines like Gundam Seed, Gundam 00, and Gundam: The Witch from Mercury are standalone and should be watched on their own terms. Within UC, chronological order and release order mostly agree, with exceptions for the OVAs (The Origin, 0080, 0083, 08th MS Team) which were produced later but set during earlier periods. Newcomers in 2026 usually start with the Mobile Suit Gundam compilation movies or The Origin OVA — both are more palatable than the 1979 TV series, which shows its age.
